Engine makers have chosen two different paths to meet the 2010 emissions regulations: selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and enhanced exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), and there’s a great deal of interest – and some confusion – in the market about these new technologies. Fleets and owner-operators attending the Great American Trucking Show will get answers to all of their questions during the 2010 Engine Super Sessions and Ride and Drive, held Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, beginning at 10:00 a.m., at the Dallas Convention Center.

The 2010 Engine Super Sessions will kick off with a panel discussion, “Two Roads to 2010,” featuring experts from the leading engine makers discussing how their specific technology will meet customers’ needs in terms of fuel economy, cost, maintenance, and driver acceptance. The second session, “Ins and outs of diesel exhaust fluid,” will address the properties of DEF, as well as its cost, consumption levels, infrastructure and recommendations for storage and handling.

The third session, “Operational aspects of 2010 engines,” will discuss details of the onboard diagnostic monitoring systems the Environmental Protection Agency requires for 2010 engines to ensure that NOx output in actual operation doesn’t exceed certain levels.

At the conclusion of the Engine Super Sessions attendees will be able to step off the show floor and into the cabs of trucks equipped with 2010 engine technologies. GATS will be one of the only places where fleets and owner-operators can see, test-drive and compare the new engines first hand – before 2010. Attendees will also be able to meet individually with engine makers should they have additional questions.

Those interested in attending the engine sessions and the Great American Trucking Show may register online at www.gatsonline.com . Anyone registered for GATS may attend the sessions at no charge.

U.S. Lube Rolls Out New Product Line Nationwide

EL PASO, TX – D&M Global Marketing has announced that its new line of U.S. Lube oil and diesel treatment products is now available at select truckstops, travel centers, parts stores, and dealerships nationwide.

The product line, developed using advanced technologies, is now available at Pilot Travel Centers, Roady’s, PTP, Sapp Bros., Pantry’s and Love’s Travel Centers coast to coast in addition to VIPAR and Heavy Duty America. U.S. Lube’s initial line-up of products is geared to the needs of professional, over-the-road drivers. The U.S. Lube starting line-up includes products ranging from oil and fuel additives to an upper-cylinder lube and hub oil.

The company’s flagship product is U.S. Lube Oil Enhancer – a one-of-a-kind additive, which raises oil pressure, improves engine power, and protects engine oil from heat and corrosion. Made of 100% petroleum stocks, Oil Enhancer is available in quart and gallon containers.

U.S. Lube’s Upper-Cylinder Lube was recently showcased at Love’s Travel Center locations in more than 30 states. Upper-Cylinder Lube is specially formulated to clean fuel injectors, while also helping to increase power and fuel economy. This product helps dissolve carbon build-up, which is often responsible for burning pistons. As a result of brisk sales of the Upper-Cylinder Lube, Love’s is planning to quickly expand its offering of U.S. Lube products at its travel centers nationwide.

Other products integral to the company’s initial launch are U.S. Lube-branded Diesel Fuel Treatment with anti-gel, Hub Oil, Gear Lube, Injector Cleaner and Trans Fix and Power Steering Stop Leak.

U.S. Lube has formulated its products to comply with federally mandated low sulfur fuel requirements. Truck owners will also be in compliance with their manufacturer warranties if they use U.S. Lube products as directed.

The U.S. Lube product line was created by D&M founder and Chief Executive Dave Latimer, who previously led the development and operations of Petro Stoping Centers’ quick-lube, tire and maintenance business – Petro:Lube. Mr. Latimer said he built on his 25 years of frontline, “in the pits” experience to design the U.S. Lube products which are “designed to improve diesel engine performance, enhance preventive maintenance, and reduce operating costs.”

“I have spent most of my career serving professional drivers – especially owners/operators and small fleets,” said Mr. Latimer. “I know that they are continually looking for ways to reduce their total cost of equipment ownership and operation, especially given the current high fuel prices. Our mission is to help them achieve that goal.”

AMERICAN FALLS, ID
Bully Dog Technologies®, a company well known for their performance products for light trucks and SUVs, has developed a downloader for drivers of tractor trailers with Caterpillar™ engines. This new downloader called the Cat Big Rig Power Pup™, joins Bully Dog’s big rig downloader product line.

The Cat Big Rig Power Pup has been years in the development and were designed with the primary focus of improving fuel economy. Shawn Udy, Bully Dog Big Rig Project Manager, had this to say about the Cat Power Pup release, “We knew going in that improving fuel economy wasn’t going to be an easy task. Our engineers have been working for years on the light duty engines and increasing horsepower and torque is almost second nature for them, however fuel economy is completely different. We thought that we had it completed a couple of times, but then the results coming back from the field trials were not where they needed to be, so our engineers had to start over. This last time through the field trials and testing did show that we were consistently increasing fuel economy in these engines, and the drivers were reporting that they were happy with both the economy and the performance out of their trucks with the downloader installed.”

The Power Pup Big Rig downloaders feature two tuning options; the Economy Tune is designed to provide maximum fuel efficiency and a small power increase while the Power & Economy Tune produces approximately 15% more power to the wheels while also providing increased fuel economy. The increased economy is the result of creating a more thorough, more efficient burn within the engine.

The following applications are included in the initial release and more applications are in development:

C-10 10.3L ‘99-’03
C-11 11.1L ‘04-’07
C-12 12.0L ‘99-’03
C-13 12.5L ‘04-’07
C-15 14.6L ‘99-’03
C-15 15.2L ‘04-’07
C-16 15.8L ‘99-’02

Aeroserve Technologies of Carp Ontario Canada was honored at the 25th Annual National Space Symposium Dinner on 2 April 2009 with a Recognition Award from the Space Foundation for work in improving vehicle aerodynamics. This ceremony held at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Working with vortex generators originally developed by Gary Wheeler and tested extensively by NASA for flow control, Aeroserve refined and commercialized the technology resulting in their Airtab® product range.

Airtabs are small, lightweight very low drag vortex generators that help to bridge the gap between tractor and trailer and also smooth the airflow at the back of any bluff-bodied vehicle. Savings in fuel average 3% in extensive real world applications. They are lightweight and easily installed. Improvements in handling and reduction in spray behind the vehicle have been important side effects of improved airflow.

This commendation is part of the induction of the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center Aerodynamic Vehicle Design Program team into the Space Technology Hall of Fame.

The Space Technology Hall of Fame was created in 1988 by the Space Foundation, in cooperation with NASA, to increase public awareness of the benefits resulting from space exploration programs and to encourage further innovation. To date, the Space Foundation has inducted 59 technologies as well as honoring the organizations and individuals who transformed space technology into commercial products that improve the quality of life for all humanity.

Airtabs are marketed in Canada and the United States by Airtab, LLC of Loveland Colorado and in Europe, Asia, Central and South America by WorldCrest Management Inc of Ottawa; Australasian Transportation Technologies markets to Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.
